2010 saw many artists struggling to sell tickets to there shows, but the same could not be said for 2011. Pollstar reported in July of last year that ticket grosses were already well ahead of the pace set the previous year, in spite of lower numbers of tickets being sold, while Live Nation credited a 2nd quarter growth to an increase in tickets sold, and an increase in ticket prices. So what made the big difference for concert goers? This could be difficult to determine, since the final numbers for 2011 have yet to be published. Many would like to credit the higher sales to the artists that were on tour, and others would say that it stems from an increasing number of small venue shows, which have shown to be quite popular with concert goers. Many of the artists who struggled in 2010 typically see very large turnouts for their tours, so I'm curious to see if there is a big difference in the top selling tours between the two years. I think it will also be interesting to see if the artists who have had less than stellar luck filling arenas will jump on the smaller venue band wagon to see if they have better luck. I'm also very excited to see if this trend continues in 2012, and if so, whether or not we will gain a better insight into what caused the slump in numbers in 2010, and what has helped to revive the industry. I'll be posting Pollstar's list of the top selling tours once it's available so stay tuned!

So I'll keep my first post short and sweet. It's almost time for the Grammy's, and I have to admit that I'm extremely excited this year. With my favorite band, Foo Fighters, up for 6 Grammys, including Album of the Year, I am really looking forward to the awards show this year. I know that Adele is the favorite to win this award, but I've got my fingers crossed for Dave Grohl & co.
